The research activities at the division of Biotechnology include areas such as enzyme technology, microbial technology, industrial biotechnology, bioseparation and bioanalysis. The division provides an inspiring environment where scientific work and education goes hand in hand with interactions with society.

Uplift

The overall idea of UPLIFT is to biologically depolymerize bio- and fossil-based plastic packaging waste and convert it into more renewable and easily upcyclable polymers, following a biorefinery approach.

SEAPRO Project

SEAPRO Project Overview Seaweed is a sustainable and healthy raw material from the sea with the potential of taking a central role in human food and health products in Europe. The project covers the whole value chain from cultivation and fermentation of the raw material to development of food and nutraceutical products with fermented seaweed as an ingredient.

Unleashing Xylan's Potential with Enzymes for a Scope of Consumer Products

With the growing demand for greener biobased consumer products, every fraction of biomass should be efficiently used and appropriately modified to obtain the desired properties.

The SECRETed project proposes the development of novel molecules with tailor-made properties by the combination of biosynthetic genes of amphiphilic compounds (biosurfactants and siderophores) produced by marine and extremophilic microorganisms.

SeaMark

The SeaMark consortium brings together a highly complementary and balanced mix of partners along the entire seaweed value chain, from seaweed cultivation to product testing.

ScanOats

ScanOats is an industrial research centre with oat in focus. Using a holistic approach, oat is studied all the way from the crop genome to nutritional aspects. At the division of Biotechnology we are engaged in processing aspects, investigating novel oat based products, and utilizing advanced analysis techniques.
