The work with extemophilic microorganims as well as with anaerobes has involved screening for new enzyme activities and also development of new isolation and screening methods. In the last few years, a whole range of new organisms have been isolated and classified by their 16s rDNA as novel species. Some of them have been further characterized and described in publications.

Clostridium lundense: An anaerobic lipase-producing organism from Lund, Sweden.
Clostridium boliviense: a xylan degrading, sulphide producing organism from Bolivia.
Clostridium algarum: a xylan degrading, sulphide producing organism from Bolivia.
Halomonas boliviensis: an alkalitolerant and moderate halophile with high capacitry to produce polyhydroxybutyrate. Isolated from high altitude in Bolivia.
Chromohalobacter sarecensis: Isolated from high altitude in Bolivia.
Nesterenkonia abyssinica: an alkaliphilic, halotolerant organims isolated from an Ethiopian soda lake.
Bacillus bogoriensis: alkaliphilic halotolerant organism from a Kenyan soda lake.
